Powered by an early five-run outburst, No. 22 Clemson posted a 12-0 win over Georgia Tuesday in front of 4,736 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The Tigers (25-12) built a 5-0 lead by sending nine men to the plate in the first off junior left-hander Andrew Gist. Sophomores Reed Rohlman and Chris Williams had back-to-back two-run doubles to highlight the scoring. An RBI-single by freshman Seth Beer in the second made it 6-0. Catcher Chris Okey smashed a grand slam in the fourth for a 10-0 advantage.  Beer added a two-run single in the fifth for the final.

Clemson freshman right-hander Ryley Gilliam was the beneficiary of the offense. He improved to 2-0, going five innings and allowing just one hit with a walk and one strikeout. He carried a no-hitter through 4.2 innings before freshman second baseman LJ Talley lined a single to centerfield. Gist dropped to 3-2 after surrendering six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.

“Tonight was a dud and not a good start, and it’s disappointing but it’s over now and we have to get ready for Florida,” Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin said. “I was encouraged to see what our last three pitchers did. It was good to see them throw like that.”

Georgia used a staff approach on the mound Tuesday, getting six pitchers a bit of work. Freshman Addison Albright, sophomore Blake Cairnes and freshman Trevor Tinder were the final three to see action and each pitched a scoreless inning.

The Bulldogs (20-18, 6-9 SEC) are back in action Thursday to start an SEC road series against second-ranked Florida (33-5, 11-4 SEC). Georgia claimed a series over then No. 2 South Carolina last weekend in Athens while the Gators moved in to a tie for first in the Eastern Division after a road sweep of Arkansas. First pitch will be at 7:30 p.m. and be available on ESPNU.
