[break] Georgia soccer will kickoff its 2015 spring season on Saturday when the team travels to Tallahassee to take on the 2014 National Champion Florida State Seminoles at noon.

“The coaching staff, as well as the players, are excited about seeing some new faces and a new opponent to play against,” head coach Billy Lesesne said on getting the spring season underway. “It’s certainly a good challenge when your first spring match is against the defending National Champions. It will be a great test for us to see where we are as a team. It will give us some good challenges and some good things to see what we need to work on for the rest of the spring and over the summer. Overall it’s a great opportunity for us to get better and improve on some things. Going against one of the premier programs in the country will certainly be a good measuring stick for us.”

The Bulldogs last faced off against Florida State in 2004, falling to the Seminoles 1-0. The overall series is tied at 2-2, but the Bulldogs have lost the last two matchups. Georgia will then take on Auburn in an exhibition match in Atlanta on March 19.

Georgia is coming off a 10-8-2 campaign in 2014 with a 5-5-1 record in Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs reached the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Earlier this month, Lesesne announced the first signing class of his tenure at Georgia, adding five new players to the team. The incoming class will add to an already strong returning group of players that includes five rising seniors, 12 rising juniors and 16 rising sophomores.
