A pair of early home runs helped No. 8 LSU (28-8, 5-6) past the No. 9 Georgia softball team (30-7, 4-4) 5-1 on Saturday.
Brittany Gray (9-4) took the loss after giving up seven hits and eight walks but struck out 11 batters to tie her career high.
Georgia got off seven hits from winning pitcher Allie Walljasper (5-4), as the Tiger walked one and struck out four. Sydni Emanuel put up two of those hits, her second multi-hit game of the weekend.
LSU built itself a 2-0 lead after solo home runs in the first and fourth inning. Georgia cut the deficit by one in the bottom of the fourth after back-to-back doubles from Alex Hugo and Tina Iosefa to open the frame.
The Tigers broke it open in the fifth, notching three runs off of three hits to make it a 5-1 ballgame. A sacrifice fly from Savanna Jaquish brought in the first run while a two-RBI single by Constance Quinn finished out the inning.
The series concludes on Sunday at two p.m. ET at Jack Turner Stadium. Admission is free while the game can be watch on SEC Network+/WatchESPN. It is Lu’au Day, as the first 300 fans will receive a free T-shirt.
