The rain over Athens held off to let the Georgia softball team (41-17) take a 6-0 victory in its Regional opener over Maine (28-20) on Friday at Jack Turner Stadium.
 
 
Making its 15th-consecutive appearance in NCAA postseason action, the 16th-seeded Bulldogs used nine hits to earn the win, led by the bats of senior Tina Iosefa and freshman Alyssa DiCarlo, as the two combined for four hits and five RBI.
 
 

 
 
Chelsea Wilkinson held the Black Bears to one hit in her three innings of work, striking out eight in 10 batters faced. Kylie Bass (7-2) came in to finish off the final four frames, giving up just four hits and fanning six batters. The pitching staff and defense allowed only one baserunner in four different innings and didn’t let Maine get past first base.
 
 
DiCarlo came through with a two-out, two-RBI double in the first to give Georgia the early advantage. It increased to 4-0 in the third with Alex Hugo scoring on a triple from Iosefa while pinch runner Kayleigh Medlin came in on a RBI groundout from DiCarlo.
 
 

 
 
The momentum carried to the fifth as SEC home run leader Iosefa hit her 21st home run of the season, making it 5-0 before a RBI single for Cortni Emanuel finished off Maine 6-0 in the sixth inning.
 
 
Georgia’s next game is at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday against Northwestern, who took game one over Oklahoma State 2-1. The Cowgirls will face Maine at 3:30 p.m. ET. All games are on WatchESPN while tickets can be purchased for each contest. Gates open two hour prior to first pitch.
