Series History

Georgia is up on Missouri 7-1 in the series that began with 1960 Orange Bowl in Miami where the Bulldogs posted a 14-0 victory to cap a 10-1 season under coach Wallace Butts. The Dawgs did not play the Tigers just again until Missouri joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012. Georgia has won the last five meetings with the Tigers.

When Georgia defeated Clemson 26-23 on Kevin Butler’s iconic 60-yard field goal in 1984, the win gave the Dogs a 46-4-1 record in a 51-game stretch dating to the ‘79 Tech game.

The first-ever four-time All-American at Georgia in any sport is tennis legend Allen Miller, who won the ‘83 NCAA doubles crown with Ola Malmqvist and led the Dogs to the ‘85 national title.

New University of Georgia Circle of Honor member Jarvis Hayes was a two-time All-SEC selection in basketball for the Bulldogs in 2002 and 2003 and a first-round NBA Draft pick.

Back in 2001, Missouri’s basketball program handed Georgia losses in the NCAA Tournament on back-to-back days, the men in Greensboro, and the women the next day in Athens.

One of the greatest athletes in Mizzou history is Nationals ace Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and seven-time All-Star, who had a stellar career for the Tigers.

Steve Stipanovitch is one of the most decorated players in Tigers basketball history and was the second overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft behind Virginia legend Ralph Sampson.

University of Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Missouri’s Barry Odom are two of eleven head coaches at schools from Power 5 conferences that are coaching at their alma mater.

Missouri’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Derek Dooley has a number of ties to Georgia. Dooley is the son of former UGA head coach and athletic director, the legendary Vince Dooley. One of Derek’s sons, J.T., was a walk-on wide receiver with the Georgia football team for the 2018 season and is currently a student assistant with the Bulldogs’ offense.
