[su_spacer size=”20″] The No. 8/8 Georgia softball team picked up a pair of r at 60 at 40un-rule wins over Savannah State on Tuesday, March 10 at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs earned a 15-3 win in the first game before handing the Lady Tigers an 8-0 loss in game two. It was the 12th and 13th run-rule victories of the season for Georgia. With the wins, Georgia improves to 23-3 on the season. Savannah State falls to 6-11 on the year.
[su_spacer size=”40″] As a team, the Bulldogs recorded 21 hits and outscored Savannah State 23-3 on the day. Sydni Emanuel led the way, going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Paige Wilson collected three hits, scored twice and drove in one run. Alex Hugo went 2-for-4 with six RBI. Savannah McHellon was 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs. Georgia was a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases, with Cortni Emanuel and S. Emanuel each swiping four bases each.

Georgia 15, Savannah State 3

[su_spacer size=”20″] The Bulldogs scored early and often in the first game of the doubleheader, picking up a 15-3 five-inning win.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Brittany Gray got the start and the win for Georgia to improve to 8-0 on the year. In three innings of work, she allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, on one hit and a walk. She struck out six batters. Rebekah Farris threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Savannah State’s Ashley Eichenlaub suffered the loss to fall to 4-6 on the year. She allowed 13 runs on 11 hits and four walks in 2.2 innings of work. Amanda Hallman and Helen Keevy also saw time in the circle. The pair combined to give up two runs, one unearned, on three hits and a walk.

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia put up eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. A pair of singles and a trio of stolen bases by C. Emanuel and S. Emanuel got the inning started. A walk, a single by Hugo and an error allowed both C. Emanuel and S. Emanuel to score and give Georgia a 2-0 lead. A bases loaded walk made it a 3-0 game. Katie Collins drove in two more with a double that extended the lead to 5-0. A fielder’s choice by C. Emanuel and a pair of singles by S. Emanuel and Wilson scored the final three runs of the inning to put Georgia up 8-0.
[su_spacer size=”40″] McHellon’s home run to straight away center field provided Georgia with a run in the second inning that made it a 9-0 game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Savannah State used a walk, a single and three Georgia error to get three runs back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 9-3.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia didn’t let up, adding four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Adele Harrison, who was celebrating her birthday, picked up her first career hit with an infield single. After a groundout moved Harrison to second, Maeve McGuire sent Harrison home on a pinch hit double. With two on, Hugo stepped to the plate and took a 2-1 pitch deep over the trees beyond the left field wall that made it a 13-3 game.

[su_spacer size=”20″] The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning that resulted in a 15-3 game. A fielding error put Niaja Griffin at first. With a runner on, Harrison doubled to left center, allowing Griffin to come home on the play. Harrison scored one batter later on a triple by C. Emanuel that gave Georgia a 15-3 lead.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Needing just three outs, Farris struck out the first batter she faced before inducing a groundout. After a single, Farris got the final batter to ground out to third to seal the 15-3 win.

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia kept its foot on the gas in the second game of the day, sealing the sweep with an 8-0, five-inning win.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Gray got the start and the win for Georgia to improve to 9-0 on the year. She threw five scoreless innings, scattering just four hits and striking out four batters.

[su_spacer size=”20″] The Bulldogs put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. C. Emanuel walked and the swiped both second and third before scoring on a single by S. Emanuel. Hugo drove in S. Emanuel for the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly out to right.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia doubled its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Griffin reached on a fielder’s choice before scoring on a single by LaZear and a Savannah State error. LaZear came around to score one play later when she crossed the plate on a fielding error.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia’s offense put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. McHellon led off with her second home run of the day, this one a solo shot to left. Chaycie Goggins followed with a single through the right side. She then stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Griffin drove Goggins home with a single and scored on a three-base error that made it a 7-0 game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] S. Emanuel led off the top of the fifth with a single up the middle. After stealing second and third, S. Emanuel scored the game-winning run on a fielding error by the third baseman, who tried tagging her out a third on the throw from the catcher.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia returns to action this weekend when it hosts No. 5/5 Alabama in a three-game Southeastern Conference series. The series is set to begin Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m.
