For the second game in a row, South Carolina (23-6, 2-4) came out a winner, using a walk-off home run in the eighth inning to win 3-1 over the No. 12 Georgia softball team (25-5, 1-2) on Monday.
Kaylea Snaer’s bat secured the series for the Gamecocks, as she had all three RBI for USC. Snaer sent a two-out home run ball over left field, scoring Alexis Mack in the eighth while the only other run for the home team came in the first inning off a Snaer RBI double just short of going over the outfield wall.
Chelsea Wilkinson (13-2) took the loss after going the full game with six hits allowed and four strikeouts. Nickie Blue (10-5) earned the win after five innings of relief with one walk issued and one strikeout while sitting down the last 12 batters she faced.
USC pitcher Jessica Elliott got the start, giving up the three hits Georgia posted while the lone run was unearned. The Bulldogs knotted the game in the second, as every batter that frame but the final out reached first base. Two plays at home put two outs on the board before a Lacey Sumerlin bloop single over third base let Alyssa DiCarlo score the run.
Georgia is back at home this week, beginning with Georgia Southern on Wednesday at six p.m. ET. The game will be featured on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
