The No. 7/7 Georgia softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to the No. 15/18 Tennessee Lady Vols on Sunday, March 29 at Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. With the loss, Georgia falls to 29-7 on the year, including a 6-5 mark in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee is 25-7 overall and 5-3 in league play.

Brittany Gray suffered the loss to fall to 11-2 on the year. She allowed six runs, three earned, on six hits, three walks and two hit batters in 4.2 innings of work. Chelsea Wilkins threw the final 1.1 innings. She allowed just one hit and struck out one. Gretchen Aucoin got the win to improve to 8-2 on the year. She allowed two runs on two hits and three walks in 5.0 innings in the circle. She also struck out two. Rainey Gaffin threw the final 2.0 innings without giving up a run. She also struck out three.

Anna Swafford collected two of Georgia’s three hits on the day. She finished with a home run and a triple, scored once and drove in two runs.

For the second game in a row, Swafford put the Bulldogs on the board, taking the first pitch she saw in the top of the second over the left field wall for a solo home run that gave Georgia a 1-0 lead. It was her ninth home run of the year.

Tennessee answered with a home run of its own to lead off the bottom of the second that tied the game at 1-1.

Swafford continued her hot day at the plate in the top of the third inning. After Sydni Emanuel led off with a walk, Swafford took the first pitch of her at bat off the wall in right field for a triple that scored Emanuel and put the Bulldogs up 2-1.

Tennessee scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead over Georgia. A leadoff walk and a hit batter put two on for Meghan Gregg who singled up the middle, allowing the tying run to score. A bases loaded hit batter scored the go-ahead run that made it a 3-2 game. Megan Geer made it a 4-2 game on a single to third. After Georgia pitching change, Shaliyah Geathers delivered a two-run single through the right side that brought the score to 6-2. Wilkinson struck out the final batter to end the inning.

Gaffin held Georgia scoreless over the final two innings to seal the 6-2 game two win that allowed Tennessee to clinch the series.

Georgia and Tennessee wrap up the series tomorrow, Monday, March 30, at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on the SEC Network.
