The Golden Eagles come in at 0-1, coming off a heartbreaking 32-25 loss to in-state foe Middle Tennessee State. Kirby Smart’s Dogs come into the game with a 1-0 record. Georgia was impressive in the season-opening victory over Clemson in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, toppling the 14th-ranked Tigers 34-3 in the Aflac Kickoff Game.

Tennessee Tech plays in the Ohio Valley Conference in the FCS (1-AA) Division. The Golden Eagles were poised to win their first ever game against an FBS foe, leading the MTSU Blue Raiders 25-24 late in the fourth quarter. But Middle Tennessee scored with 16 seconds remaining to pull off the win. Making the effort all the more admirable for Tennessee Tech, starting quarterback Dylan Laible was injured in the first half. Jordyn Potts came off the bench and threw for three touchdowns, completing 27 of 38 for 256 with no interceptions.

This will be the third ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles. Georgia beat Tennessee Tech 67-0 in 1943 and 38-0 in 2009.

Georgia heads to Athens with several streaks and milestones intact. The Bulldogs have won 40 consecutive regular season games, and have been victorious in 47 of the last 49 overall. On Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium, the Dogs head into Saturday’s game on a 25 game home winning streak, and have won 41 of the last 42 Between the Hedges.

Against Clemson, the Bulldogs played tremendous complimentary football. Georgia outgained the Tigers 447 yards to 188. The Dogs averaged 6.3 yards per carry to Clemson’s 2.0, outrushing Clemson 169-46. Carson Beck completed 23-of-33 for 278 yards and two touchdowns, while the Bulldogs defense held the Tigers to 4.9 yards per attempt.

The kicking performance was tremendous from both Brett Thorson and Peyton Woodring. Thorson punted four times for an average of 48 yards, with zero return yardage. Woodring nailed a pair of first half field goals, including a massive boot of 55 yards that made honorary captain Kevin Butler smile. That gave Georgia a 6-0 lead, which would be the halftime score.

Georgia took the opening kickoff of the second half and scored the first of four second half touchdowns to go up 13-0. After holding the Tigers to a field goal on a stand deep in Georgia territory, the Bulldogs immediately responded to go up 20-3. Behind outstanding offensive line play, Beck and Nate Frazier shined offensively, the freshman tailback carrying 11 times for 83 yards and a touchdown, with a long dash of 40.

The Bulldogs then put the game away with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, sterling defense and superb punting from Brett Thorson and kicking from Woodring.

Following Saturday’s game, Georgia heads to Kentucky for the first of eight consecutive Southeastern Conference contests.
