[break] The No. 8/8 Georgia softball team set a new season highs with 19 hits and 16 runs in a 16-0 shutout win over the Towson Tigers in the first game of the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World Sports in Orlando, Fla. With the win, Georgia improves to 13-2 on the year. The win was the 10th run-rule win of the season and the seventh shutout of the year.
[break] [break] Chelsea Wilkinson got the start and the win to improve to 9-2 on the year. She allowed just three hits and struck out four in three innings of work. Brittany Gray closed out the game for Georgia, throwing the final two innings for the Bulldogs. She did not allow a base runner and struck out three. Megan Dejter suffered the loss to fall to 2-1 on the year. She gave up 10 runs, six of them earned, on 12 hits and a walk in three innings. Missy McCormick threw the final two innings and gave up six runs, five earned, onseven hits.
[break] [break] A quartet of Bulldogs posted three hits on the night. Maeve McGuire led the way, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Anna Swafford went 3-for-3 with three runs. Cortni Emanuel and Paige Wilson each went 3-for-5. Emanuel scored three runs and drove in two, while Wilson drove in four runs for the Bulldogs.
[break] [break] Georgia scored in every inning except the first on its way to the 16-0 win. The Bulldogs scored four runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Kaylee Puailoa got things started with a walk and scored on a single by McGuire. With the bases loaded, Sydni Emanuel made it a 2-0 game with a single to left. Wilson drove home the final two runs of the inning with asingle to right center that made it a 4-0 game.
[break] [break] The Bulldogs added six more runs in the top of the third. After three-straight one-out singles, Tina Iosefa drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single that extended Georgia’s lead to 6-0. McGuire scored on an errant throw by the Towson second baseman to make it a 7-0 game. Wilson again game through with a big hit, driving in two runs on a double to left center. With The Bulldogs leading 9-0, Alex Hugo drove in Wilson with a double of her own that made it a 10-0 game.
[break] [break] Georgia tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Niaja Griffin scored the first run of the inning when she came home on Swafford’s double to left field. With runners at first and third with two outs, C. Emanuel singled down the left field line that allowed Swafford to score the 12th run of the game. C. Emanuel scored the final run of the inning when she scored on an error that gave the Bulldogs a 13-0 lead.
[break] [break] The offensive outburst didn’t let up as Georgia scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Savannah McHellon led off the inning with a home run to center field, her first career home run. A single and a hit batsman put two on for McGuire, who delivered her third hit of the game that drove in Niaja Griffin. Swafford scored the final run of the game on a C. Emanuel single to center that resulted in the final score of 16-0.
[break] [break] Gray shut down the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning, retiring the side in order to seal the 16-0 victory for the Bulldogs.
[break] [break] Georgia returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 27 at 1:15 p.m., and 5:45 p.m., against Indiana and James Madison. The game versus James Madison will be available on ESPN3.
