Georgia vs UAB: Three matchups to watch
With Georgia and UAB set to kickoff in a couple of hours, let’s take a look at three key matchups in today’s game.
  1. Georgia’s starting QB vs. UAB’s front

JT Daniels is likely to miss Saturday’s game with a reported oblique injury. Georgia will have to turn to either redshirt freshman Carson Beck or senior Stetson Bennett. Bennett started five games last year and led Georgia to wins over rivals Auburn and Tennessee. Beck probably has the higher ceiling and could be Georgia’s starting quarterback after the JT Daniels-era is over in Athens. At 6-foot-4, Beck has impressive physical tools but might not be as polished yet as Bennett. Regardless, UAB has a defensive unit that has not allowed a point this year and the Bulldogs did not score an offensive touchdown last week. The starter today will not have an easy task ahead of themselves.

2. Georgia’s pass rush vs. Tyler Johnston

Tyler Johnston enters Saturday’s matchup as the Blazers starting quarterback. As a redshirt senior he brings plenty of experience and has led UAB to two C-USA Championships. This could be the most difficult matchup of his football career though facing Georgia’s defense. Last week the Bulldogs racked up seven sacks against then-No. 3 Clemson. Of course, six of those sacks came from different players, showing the versatility and talent that Georgia possesses on that side of the ball. If Georgia can put pressure on Johnston, it could force him to make errant throws leading to turnovers.

3. UAB vs. Full capacity Sanford Stadium

For the first time since November 23, 2019, Sanford Stadium will allow 93,000 fans to watch a Georgia football game. It was likely to be a loud atmosphere regardless, but with Georgia beating Clemson and moving up to No. 2 in the AP poll, the intensity stock continues to go up. UAB will have to worry about Georgia’s crowd in addition to Georgia’s defense, which does not bode well for the Blazers offense.
