D’ANDRE SWIFT (RB, #7)
Georgia’s third-leading rusher in 2017 as a mere freshman while playing behind school record-breakers Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, Swift has teamed with Elijah Holyfield to carry the majority of the Bulldogs’ running load this season. Both fast and powerful, the 5-9, 215-pound sophomore out of Philadelphia was slowed by a groin injury in the spring but is fast returning to full health and is certainly going to be a key component for the Bulldogs in the second half of the season … starting with the Vanderbilt game Saturday night.
TERRY GODWIN (WR, #5)
Godwin missed time in preseason camp and the opening game against Austin Peay with a calf injury but of course is one of the Bulldogs’ ace pass catchers, a 5-11, 185-pound senior who was the Bulldogs’ leading returning receiver entering this season. Making perhaps college football’s catch of the year in 2017, a falling backwards, one-handed touchdown reception in the win at Notre Dame, Godwin will need to be a leader both on and off the field in order for the Bulldogs to return to the SEC Championship Game.
SOLOMON KINDLEY (OG, #66)
This 6-4, 335-pound redshirt sophomore out of Jacksonville, Fla. has been an off-and-on starter in the Bulldogs’ offensive line the past two seasons. With good strength and quickness for a man his size, Kindley is just one of a multitude of offensive linemen who are capable of doing the job for Coach Sam Pittman … either as a starter or in a key backup role. Running the football well is the Bulldogs’ No. 1 priority on offense and Kindley will need to step up his game even more in the possible stretch run toward a second straight SEC East title.
CADE MAYS (OT, #77)
Like Kindley, Mays is another young player who shows tremendous potential in Georgia’s offensive front. The 6-6, 318-pound true freshman out of Knoxville, Tenn. stepped in at left tackle this season when all-star sophomore candidate Andrew Thomas was injured and, overall, has acquitted himself well for a first-year guy playing in the toughest position for a freshman to play in the rugged SEC. With starting right guard Ben Cleveland going down in the Missouri game, Mays can fill in at both tackle and guard for the Dawgs.
JUWAN TAYLOR (ILB, #44)
One of the senior leaders for the Bulldog defense this fall Taylor, along with senior Natrez Patrick, sophomore Monty Rice and junior Tae Crowder, have combined together to attempt to keep the Bulldogs’ inside linebacker position solid … after the loss of consensus All-America and Butkus Award winner Roquan Smith. The 6-1, 218-pound Taylor needs to play big, what with the Georgia defense about to face some of the SEC’s top running attacks in the second half of the season.
MICHAEL BARNETT (DT, #94)
Replacing outgoing senior John Atkins at nose tackle hasn’t been an easy task for Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker but players such as Julian Rochester and Michael Barnett, both juniors, have been working diligently to do so. The 6-4, 304-pound Barnett, out of Dorchester, S.C., must continue to create stalemates with the opposing offensive linemen when he comes in for Rochester, thereby freeing the Bulldogs’ inside ‘backers to stop Vanderbilt’s run game Saturday night.
