Georgia Set To Host Vanderbilt

The No. 18-ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs return home to Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. matinée matchup with Vanderbilt.

The Lady Bulldogs will look to protect their perfect 10-0 home record this season and extend a 16-game home winning streak that dates back just over a calendar year ago to a Jan. 16, 2014, victory over Arkansas. This season, Georgia has won its home outings by an impressive average of 20.6 ppg.

Georgia slipped to 15-3 overall and 3-2 in SEC action with Thursday’s 55-52 loss at Ole Miss. The Lady Bulldogs led 52-47 with 2:22 left in Oxford before being outscored 8-0 down the stretch.

Shacobia Barbee leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring at 12.3 ppg, while Tiaria Griffin is contributing 11.7 ppg. Krista Donald is Georgia’s top rebounder at 7.4 rpg.

Griffin is averaging a team-high 13.0 ppg SEC play and was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 16.0 ppg in wins over Missouri and Auburn.

All told, eight different Lady Bulldogs – Barbee, Marjorie Butler, Donald, Mackenzie Engram, Erika Ford, Griffin, Merritt Hempe and Pachis Roberts – have combined to score in double figures 46 times for Georgia.

Vanderbilt arrives in Athens with deceptive records of 10-7 overall and 1-3 in SEC play. The Commodores have been bitten badly by the injury bug this season. Vanderbilt’s Jan. 5 game against Tennessee marked the first time all 13 players on the Commodores’ roster were healthy and ready for action. All told, six different players missed games over the first 13 contests.

Vanderbilt served notice it was rounding into form last Sunday when it handed No. 14 Mississippi State its first loss of the season.

Heather Bowe and Rebekah Dahlman provide double-figure scoring averages of 10.7 ppg and 10.4 ppg, respectively. The Commodores have been extremely balanced in SEC play, with no less than eight players averaging between 5.0 ppg and 10.5 ppg.

Series History versus Vanderbilt

Georgia owns a 33-26 lead in its all-time series with Vanderbilt, including a 17-7 mark at Stegeman Coliseum.

UGA and VU split two meetings last season, with the Commodores capturing a 66-58 win in both teams’ SEC opener on Jan. 2 and the Lady Bulldogs securing a 53-43 victory in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

In the SEC Tourney matchup, Georgia used a 19-3 run late in the first half to gain a comfortable lead it maintained the rest of the day.
