[su_spacer size=”20″] The No. 8/8 Georgia softball team improved to 19-2 on the year with a pair of wins off Wright State on Wednesday, March 4 at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs took a 9-0 win in game one before defeating Wright State 8-1 in the nightcap. Georgia has now won seven-straight games. The Bulldogs have also now shut out their opponents 10 times this season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Niaja Griffin highlighted the day, going 4-for-6 with a double, a triple and two singles. She also scored two times and drove in three. Anna Swafford recorded her fourth home run of the season and her second inside the park home run of the year. Tina Iosefa and Paige Wilson hit their first home runs of the year, both getting two-run shots in the second game of the day.

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia was able capitalize with two outs in its 9-0 win over Wright State in the first game of the doubleheader. The Bulldogs scored eight of its nine runs with two away.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Chelsea Wilkinson got her 12th win of the season to improve to 12-2 overall. She allowed just one hit and struck out six in 4.0 innings of work. Rebekah Farris threw the final inning for the Bulldogs. Ashley Sharp suffered the loss to fall to 0-4 on the year. She allowed nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits and two walks. No Georgia batter struck out.
[su_spacer size=”40″] After a scoreless first inning, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. A triple by Griffin and a walk to Samantha LaZear put runners at the corners for Katie Collins. With two away, Collins singled through the left side that scored Griffin. A double steal put both runners in scoring position for Sydni Emanuel, who singled to the shortstop, allowing LaZear to plate the second run of the game.

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Wilson led off with a sharply hit single to left and scored on a sacrifice fly by Iosefa. A fielding error allowed Maeve McGuire to reach and Swafford, who was hit by a pitch, to score to put Georgia up 4-0. Griffin collected her second hit of the day on a RBI single that scored McGuire. A triple to center by LaZear allowed Griffin to score and extend Georgia’s lead to 6-0.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The two-out magic continued in the bottom of the fourth inning when Swafford recorded her second inside the park home run of the season that made it a 7-0 game. A single, a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for Griffin, who drove in two with a double to center that gave Georgia a 9-0 lead.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Farris came into the circle and promptly recorded the40three outs to seal the 9-0 shutout.

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia kept momentum on its side in game two, earning an 8-1 win over Wright State.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Brittany Gray got the win for Georgia to run her unblemished record to 6-0 on the year. She allowed one run, on four hits and two walks. She also struck out a season-best nine batters in the win. Montana Wear earned the loss to fall to 0-7 overall. She allowed eight runs, on 10 hits, a walk and two hit batters.

[su_spacer size=”20″] A leadoff walk, a stolen base and a fly out moved S. Emanuel to third base with one away. She scored on a wild pitch that made it a 1-0 game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase its lead to 4-0. After a single, a stolen base and a fielder’s choice put S. Emanuel at third, she was able to come home on a wild pitch for the second time in the game. With Swafford at second, Iosefa stepped to the plate and blasted her first home of the season over the left center field wall to make it a 4-0 game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Wright State avoided the shutout when they scored a run on an infield single in the top of the fourth.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia didn’t let up as they entered the fourth inning, adding three more runs. Cortni Emanuel got things started with a single to the shortstop before stealing second and moving to third on a fielding error. With two on and one away, Wilson took a 3-0 pitch high and deep over the right field wall for her first home run of the season. It was the second homer of the game and third on the day for the Bulldogs. The round tripper put Georgia up 7-1.

[su_spacer size=”20″] The final run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, Swafford was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. She then stole second before coming home a RBI-single to right by Iosefa that made it an 8-1 game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Gray came into the circle for the top of the seventh and retired the side in order to seal the sweep.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs open Southeastern Conference play this weekend, March 6-8 when they travel to Starkville, Miss., for a three-game series against Mississippi State.
