The Bulldogs (16-12, 7-8) were able to win comfortably as they defeated LSU (16-12, 7-9) with its season-high points scored 93-82 Saturday in Stegeman Coliseum.

Despite shooting 2/16 from the three-point line the beginning of the contest was a back and forth game. Georgia started to pull away late in the first half with a couple of baskets from key players. Notably, Freshman Teshaun Hightower started his third game of the season and got in his groove with a layup and the foul for a three-point play. Derek Ogbeide tipped in a buzzer beater as time expired to give the team the lead at halftime 45-34.

The second half of the game was all Georgia and some as there was an offensive barrage putting the lead at as much as 22. Yante Maten led the team with 27 points and a double-double. Rayshaun Hammonds also had a great day scoring 21 points to give him his season high.

“We came out confident and took some easy shots,” Derek Ogbeide said. “We had some shots that didn’t drop and it didn’t really phase us to much we just kept on shooting.”

Dominating the boards was a big reason for the win as Georgia out-rebounded LSU 49-34. Even though it was a relatively easy win the Bulldogs it let LSU back within single digits in the final minutes after completely controlling the entirety of the game.

Georgia gave up 82 points which is its most given up in SEC play this season. LSU guard Tremont Waters dropped 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as LSU relied too much on perimeter shooting and now makes this six SEC road game losses in a row for the Tigers.

The Bulldogs return to action against Texas A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m. for its last home game of the season.
