The Lady Bulldogs now (24-5, 12-4) wrapped up the regular season winning relatively easy Sunday beating the Gators (11-18, 3-13) 63-43 on senior day at Stegeman Coliseum. This win clinches Georgia’s No. 3 seed in the SEC tournament and solidifies its double-bye.

“These seniors have never had the opportunity to have a double-bye,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “For them to work as hard as they did to make sure that everyone contributed this summer and this fall to make sure we were in position to do that. Then to see it happen I’m just happy for them.”

Georgia maintained a substantial lead all four quarters in its route of Florida on senior day. Surprisingly, the leading scorer for the Bulldogs Mackenzie Engram only had 12 points, but this puts in perspective exactly how much of a team effort the game was as eight players scored and the entire team got into the game.

“Feels good,” Taylor said. “Glad to see everybody play well especially going into the tournament that’s what you want to see. I was happy for the girls to finish out the regular season the way that they did and send those seniors out the right way.”

The first half consisted of great perimeter shooting for the Bulldogs going 6-13 for 40 percent. The fast break offense and stout defense in the paint was to much for Florida as it only scored 43 points. This now makes the Lady Bulldogs 24-0 under head coach Joni Taylor when holding opponents to less than 50 points.

The depth for Georgia showed as the bench players were heavily involved. Freshman Gabby Connally and Maya Caldwell came off the bench and scored a combined 20 points.

By the end of the third quarter the game was all but over as Georgia led 52-35 coasting to a convincing victory on senior day.

The team will now look forward to the SEC tournament this upcoming week and hope to win its first Southeastern Conference Championship since 2001 under head coach Andy Landers.
