The fourth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team (18-3, 11-2) is set to compete in the SEC Tournament, starting Friday morning at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, La.
 
 
After a strong regular season performance, the Bulldogs received the third seed and a double bye in the tournament and will face the winner of Texas A&M’s match against either Missouri or Alabama.
 
 
“We’re looking forward to the first match,” said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. “We’re in the postseason. This is a great part of the season. We had a great regular season, and now we have a huge opportunity to continue our winning ways and maybe get the opportunity to play a team or two that beat us in the regular season and potentially improve our seed for NCAAs. There’s a lot to play for this weekend.”
 
 
Georgia is led into the tournament by top-court sophomore Ellen Perez, who boasts the No. 3 national ranking in singles. Her spot in the poll, the best among all players in the SEC, comes after she completed an 11-0 regular season tour de force through the Southeastern Conference.
 
 
The Bulldogs bring a total four players and two doubles pairs ranked in the ITA rankings as they try to win their first conference tournament crown since 2014, when senior Silvia Garcia was the tournament MVP after winning all six matches she played. Georgia has won a total of six SEC Tournament championships under the direction of Wallace.
 
 
“We’re excited to go into the postseason and learn from the couple of losses we had,” said Garcia. “We’re looking forward to getting better and doing better in this next stage of the season.”
 
 
Georgia’s first contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on Friday at the LSU Tennis Complex. Should the Bulldogs advance, the remainder of the matches will be at noon ET.
