The fourth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team (10-1, 4-0) is set to defend its 15-match home win streak as it plays host to No. 10 Virginia (9-4) and No. 54 Tennessee (7-7, 1-3) at the Dan Magill Tennis complex.
 
 
The Bulldogs will take on the Cavaliers on Thursday at 3 p.m. then wrap this week’s slate with a noon date against the Volunteers on Saturday.
 
 
“It’s going to be a great two matches,” said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. “For us, it needs to be the same as what we’ve been doing – going out and battling on every court. Everybody needs to be ready for a great two matches and find ways to be just a little bit better than our opponent.”
 
 
Georgia carries a conference-best three players with 4-0 records in SEC play into this weekend: No. 10 Ellen Perez, No. 78 Kennedy Shaffer, and Laura Patterson. Shaffer has won all 11 matches she has played this season in singles, and Patterson carries a five-match win streak.
 
 
Virginia provides a tough test for Georgia as the 9-4 Cavaliers enter Athens with four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs. The Cavaliers are spearheaded by fourth-ranked Danielle Collins on the top court, penciled in to face Perez. UVA also claims the 13th-ranked singles player in the country in Julia Elbaba.
 
 
Tennessee enters play coming off its first SEC win of the season, a 4-2 victory over Alabama on Sunday. The Volunteers have one singles player ranked and are looking to snap a five-match losing streak against Georgia.
 
 
“I expect to see fight from everybody,” said sophomore Mariana Gould. “There’ll be good competition this weekend so we’ll come out ready to roll and compete and hopefully get two wins.”
