The Georgia football program has had some good news over the last 24 hours, picking up a 2018 commitment from defensive end Jaevon Becton on Wednesday night and then on Thursday, the quarterback depth chart got a much-needed boost with Brice Ramsey planning on staying at UGA to play his final season in 2017 with the Bulldogs.

 
Back in March, it was announced that Ramsey would be transferring after he graduated in May, but it looks like the Kingsland, GA native has had a change of heart and decided to finish out his collegiate career with the Dogs … or his heart changed his mind, so to speak, according to what his mother, Yolanda Ramsey, told 247 sports.
 
 
“ ‘Brice has committed to finishing out his time at the University of Georgia,’ said Yolanda Ramsey. ‘After visiting and talking with other schools, he could not get past the part of where he is heart was and that is at UGA at the end of the day.’ “
 
 
It also didn’t hurt that Kirby Smart and the coaching staff had continued to “recruit” and impress upon Ramsey to stay at Georgia. At the SEC Spring Meetings down in Destin, Florida earlier this week that is exactly what Coach Smart told reporters, “I have actively been recruiting Brice (Ramsey)… As is stands right now he is still looking around. We should have some more clarity on that in the next couple of weeks.”
 
 
Kirby went on to add, “I’ve always told Brice: You have done a great job here. You’ve done everything we’ve asked you do, on and off the field. He’s a great kid. He competed really hard. I thought he did a really great job. He was involved in the competition. When he came and told me he wanted to shop elsewhere, I told him I completely agreed and understood that.”
 
 

 
 
After Ramsey announced he was going to transfer in March, he did stick around the team and helped out during Spring Camp acting in a role similar to that of a student-assistant as the Bulldogs had but two scholarship quarterbacks in sophomore Jacob Eason and true freshman Jake Fromm along with junior walk-on Sam Vaughn; so, the depth there was a wee bit thin. And that was cause for some concern heading into the 2017 season. With just three QBs on the roster and an incoming PWO freshman Stetson Bennett IV, if Eason happened to go down with an injury for an extended period of time, would true freshman J. Fromm get the nod or one of the walk-ons?
 
 
At least now, with Ramsey returning, there is something breathing room for the Georgia coaching staff for 2017. It also means they have options on what to do with Jake Fromm as he could be a candidate for a redshirt.
 
 
Even though Ramsey has never started a game at quarterback for Georgia, he does bring back some valuable experience with the added benefit of being a pretty good punter. Of the 24 games he has participated in for the Bulldogs since 2014, Ramsey has thrown for 582 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 45 of 74 pass attempts in 15 games at QB, and as a punter, he has kicked the ball 45 times for 1,741 yards averaging 38.71 yards per punt with a long of 58 and downing the ball inside the 20-yard line 11 times in 16 games.
