Dawg Fans will enjoy the trip to Memphis for the TCU vs. Georgia match up at the Liberty Bowl. Whether it’s your thing to visit the many music museums and Elvis’ Graceland or get out to see the current rhythm and blues on Beale Street, Memphis’ music scene does not disappoint and is on par with Austin, TX and New Orleans, LA. Do the tourist thing and go have a cocktail in the lobby at The Peabody and watch the duck parade.
GUIDE2: DINING IN MEMPHIS
Memphis is known for barbeque for good reason but it has a vibrant culinary scene you want to check out in addition to the que joints!
RESTAURANT IRIS + SECOND LINE
Chef Kelly English was born and raised in Southern Louisiana and trained with The Culinary Institute of America and award-winning Chef John Besh. English is the Executive Chef/Owner of Restaurant Iris and The Second Line. Restaurant Iris is a charming French-Creole fine dining restaurant near the historic Overton Square of midtown Memphis. The Second Line is located right next door and boasts a casual atmosphere complete with Memphis-inspired New Orleans favorites like po’boys, seafood plates, roasted meats, and unique cocktails, such as fresh-squeezed Hurricanes, that are always tailor-made. Second Line is a good spot for football watching. See you there!

CHARLES VERGOS’ RENDEZVOUS
My hubby Vance is a history major; so, of course, we visit the most famous long-standing barbeque favorite when in downtown Memphis. Since 1948, the dry rub pork ribs distinguished what is known as Memphis style barbeque. We love brisket and theirs doesn’t disappoint. We get the ribs shipped to us we love them that much!

LAS TORTUGAS DELI MEXICANA
You knew the Leavys would have a Mexican spot in our dining options. We could eat it three or four times a week and often do. I read all of the reviews out there and this one in Germantown owned by a father-son duo sounds like the way to go and most say to let Pepe or Jonathan order for you.

ANDREW MICHAEL ITALIAN KITCHEN
Childhood friends and James Beard Best Chef Winners, Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman opened their Italian restaurant in East Memphis with the intent to showcase Southern ingredients and Italian flavors. We are dying to eat here because I have their cookbook, COLLARDS & CARBONARA: SOUTHERN COOKING, ITALIAN ROOTS, and love their sense of humor and how they merged my favorite culinary fusion of the South and Italy.
