The Southeastern Conference has revealed the 2021 gymnastics schedule. The University of Georgia GymDogs will compete in eight regular season meets before the SEC Championship.
The 2021 SEC gymnastics season will be comprised of eight meets per school over a 10-week conference-only schedule, with the regular-season concluding with the SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 20 in New Orleans. The decision to limit competition to conference-only opponents is based on the need for maximum flexibility in making any necessary scheduling adjustments while reacting to developments around the COVID-19 pandemic and continued advice from medical professionals. The schedule will include two open dates for all schools in Week 5 and Week 10 to allow for rescheduling of postponed events.
“After our season was abruptly cut short last year we are so thankful and excited to have the opportunity for a great regular season of meets with very competitive opponents in the SEC,” Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “This year has brought a lot of unknowns, but what I do know that is that the 2021 GymDogs have prepared and are ready for a great season. We look forward to the continued support of our amazing fans.”
The GymDogs open competition in Stegeman Coliseum against Missouri on January 8 before two road meets at Florida (Jan. 15) and LSU (Jan. 22). Georgia returns home to welcome Arkansas to Athens on January 29.
Following a bye week, the GymDogs will face Alabama in Stegeman Coliseum on February 12. Georgia hits the road again for back-to- back away meets at Auburn (Feb. 19) and Missouri (Feb. 26) before closing out competition with Kentucky at home on March 5.
Times and TV designations for conference meets will be announced at a later date.
Due to social distancing protocols, Stegeman Coliseum will be operating at a reduced capacity of approximately 20% with ticket opportunities in blocks of two or four seats only. Fans will be required to wear face masks at all time in Stegeman Coliseum.
