The Gymdogs opened their 2017 home season with a win against North Carolina State on Monday afternoon. 16th ranked Georgia defeated No. 25 NC State 196.875-194.800.

Georgia swept the event titles, and Sydney Snead took home the All-Around title. Snead won her fourth and fifth event titles of the season. In Monday’s match, she won vault ith a 9.95 and won the all-around with a 39.4 score. Other notable contributors in the meet were Rachel Schick and Sabrina Vega. Schick notched two event titles against the Wolfpack. She won the uneven bars with a 9.9, a tie with her career high, and a 9.925 on the beam, a new career high. Vega won the floor event with a 9.925, a career-high for the freshman.

The Gymdogs hosted quite a few career-bests in the meet against NC State. Morgan Reynolds and Snead scored career-highs in the first rotation on vault. Reynolds respectively received a 9.9 and Snead a 9.95. They both stuck the landing and set the bar high for the rest of the meet. Rachel Dickson and Gigi Marino set the bar even higher as they both posted 9.8’s on the vault. Georgia lead the Wolfpack by 0.35 after one rotation with a score of 49.225-48.875.

During the second rotation, the Gymdogs continued their lead as Schick posted a career-high of 9.925. The rest of the team also posted impressive scores on the bars. Lauren Johnson scored a 9.8 and Dickson with a 9.85. These scores pushed the Bulldogs lead over State even further, as they led by 0.75 going into the third rotation. After two rotations, the score was Gymdogs 98.35-97.625.

The Third rotation for Georgia included a debut performance along with increasing the lead even further. Hayley Sanders performed her first balance-beam routine of the season and scored a 9.775 respectively. She looked very confident and seemed very comfortable on the beam. Ashlyn Broussard scored a 9.9 on the beam and Schick posted a 9.925. These scores gave Georiga an impressive 49.225 for the round and led the Wolfpack 147.575-146.5 going into the final round.

The floor rotation for the Dawgs was the best of the season. The team scored a 49.300. Vega led the team on the floor with a 9.925, and Snead helped seal the deal with her score of a 9.9.

Georgia marked their second win in-a-row, and they looked like a solid team. Throughout the meet, there wasn’t one Georiga player that didn’t score less than 9.825.

The Gymdogs return for their annual blackout meet against Arkansas on Friday at 7 p.m.
