Despite a season-high score on vault, the No. 12 Georgia gymnastics team fell to the No. 19 Auburn Tigers, 197.050-196.150, on the road Friday night in Auburn Arena.  

“This is not what we came in to do but we had some strong individual performances tonight,” Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “Vault was really great. We found our landings and posted a season high score for the event. I’m proud of the way we continued to work after mistakes.  For Marissa to anchor on beam and earn the event title was great for us. We will continue to work in the gym and finish the season strong with two more meets before SECs.”

Georgia began competition on bars, posting a 49.050 in the first rotation. Junior Megan Roberts led the GymDogs with a 9.850. Seniors Emily Schild and Marissa Oakley both scored a 9.825, while sophomores Amanda Cashman and Haley de Jong added scores of 9.775. 

Moving onto vault in the second rotation, the GymDogs scored a season-high 49.325. In her season debut on vault, sophomore Soraya Hawthorne led the charge with a 9.900, matching her career-high score. Juniors Abbey Ward and Megan Roberts followed with a 9.875 and 9.850, respectively.  Junior Rachel Baumann and sophomore Amanda Cashman added a 9.825 apiece.  

Georgia added a 49.025 to its total on floor.  Again it was Hawthorne who led the GymDogs, with season-high 9.925 in the anchor position.  Baumann flipped to a 9.900 and Roberts followed with a 9.875.  Cashman also contributed a 9.750. 

Georgia finished the meet on beam with a 48.700. Oakley scored a meet-high 9.900 to earn the event title.  Baumann and de Jong added scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively.  Hawthorne moonwalked to a 9.700. 

Georgia continues competition on the road next week at Missouri.  The meet is scheduled for Friday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET.
