Gymdog junior Morgan Reynolds was named a finalist for the Honda Inspiration Award, announced by the Collegiate Women’s Sports Awards Board of Directors Friday afternoon.
 
 
The winner of the Honda Inspiration Award will be announced next week and presented on a live telecast on June 27. It is annually given to a female student-athlete in Division I, II or III who experienced extraordinary physical or emotional adversity, injury or illness, or experienced extraordinary personal sacrifice during her college enrollment and returned to athletic success.
 
 
Reynolds fought off a rare form of E. Coli and health complications that threatened her kidneys and other organs and required dialysis as treatment. She eventually returned to Georgia’s lineup on March 6 after regaining strength and relearning her skills in order to compete.
 
 
At one point Reynolds’ long-term prognosis was unclear, but she quickly became a consistent performer in the Gymdogs’ floor lineup. She recorded three consecutive 9.825s to lead Georgia into NCAA postseason play and claimed a season-high 9.85 at the Athens Regional. She continued to string together strong performances at National Championships in Fort Worth, tallying a 9.7875 and a 9.8 in front of six judges.
 
 
Reynolds earned the Inspiration Award at Georgia’s annual athletics banquet on April 25. She also earned the team’s Most Inspirational Performance Award for her 9.825 in her return at UCLA.
 
 
Other finalists for the award include Purdue’s Emily Fogle (swimming and diving) and Salisbury University’s Breck Sullivan (field hockey).
