The Georgia gymnastics team hosted its “First Look” in front of 3,772 fans in the renewed Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The GymDogs performed in Olympic order- vault, bars, beam, and then floor, showcasing their routines for the upcoming 2018 season under first-year head coach Courtney Kupets Carter.

“It was great to have the First Look in Stegeman today,” Kupets Carter said. “We treated it exactly like a competition. For the coaches, especially in our first year with them, it was so important to work out any kinks that we saw or try out things that we wanted to do with the fans. I think the gymnasts felt the butterflies and treated it like a real meet too, which is super important.”

It was revealed that sophomore Sabrina Vega will assume the responsibilities of the moonwalk on beam, a tradition passed through generations of Georgia gymnasts.

“Getting passed down the moonwalk is extremely special because it is part of Georgia tradition, and to be a part of that, is an honor,” Vega said.

Junior Sydney Snead paced the GymDogs on vault with a 9.925, while sophomore Rachel Dickson scored a high of 9.875 on bars. The duo received the same score on beam, a 9.900.

Although Georgia’s strengths are on the beam and floor, the team’s top two events for the day were beam and vault with totals of 49.225 and 49.175, respectively. The GymDogs posted a score of 196.300.

The GymDogs open the 2018 season on the road at Alabama on January 12 live on the SEC Network at 8:30 p.m. ET. Georgia’s home opener is set for Monday, January 15 at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma.

Season ticket packages remain on sale, and single meet tickets are also now available at georgiadogs.com.
