Sophomore GymDog Sabrina Vega was named SEC Specialist of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday. This is the first weekly SEC award for Vega in her career.
The Carmel, New York native pushed Georgia to its first win of 2018, and first under head coach Courtney Kupets Carter, in the anchor position on floor with a beautiful routine that scored a career-high 9.950 to earn the event title against Auburn.
The biology and psychology major tied her season-high score on beam (9.875) to share the event title with teammate Sydney Snead.
Additionally, Vega is competing in vault for the first time of her career this season and tied her career-high against the Tigers with a 9.775.
Following her performances against Auburn, Vega made her way into the rankings landing at No. 14 on beam and No. 16 for floor.
Vega and the No. 11 GymDogs travel to Arkansas to face the 10th-ranked Razorbacks on Friday, January 26 at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.
