The No. 9 Georgia gymnastics team dropped a 197.675-197.125 decision to No. 5 Utah in the regular-season finale on Saturday in front of 15,403 fans at the Huntsman Center.
 
 
The Gymdogs (5-8) reached 197 or better in their third straight meet, two of which were on the road.
 
 
“I think this meet shows that we are continuing to build on the momentum that we started last Friday against Auburn,” Georgia head coach Danna Durante said. “Three 197s in a row, our third meet in 10 days or so, and a week on the road really shows what this team is made of. This is the right time to be hitting our stride. We showed tremendous fight and tremendous determination. We finished really strong on balance beam, which is something that we have been working on. I’m so proud of them as a team.”
 
 
“Our biggest thing coming in was just to build, and I think we did that,” senior Mary Beth Box said. “There are some little things that we can still perfect and get that extra one percent that we all can give. I’m super proud of our team, and I’m excited to see where we go into postseason.”
 
 
The Gymdogs will return to action next Saturday in the SEC Championship in North Little Rock, Ark. Nos. 5-8 will compete at two p.m., followed by Nos. 1-4 at six p.m. Georgia went 4-3 against SEC foes this season.
 
 
The Gymdogs opened the meet on bars with a score of 49.125. Brittany Rogers paced Georgia at 9.925, followed by Brandie Jay at 9.85 and Sydney Snead at 9.825. Utah began on vault with 49.225.
 
 
Georgia’s score on vault was 49.375 as Rogers registered a meet-best 9.925, her third vault title of the year. Snead followed at 9.9, and Gigi Marino recorded a 9.875. Utah went 49.550 on bars to lead 98.775-98.500.
 
 
The Gymdogs wound up at 49.275 on floor, led by 9.875s by Jay and Box and 9.85s by Snead and Vivi Babalis. After Utah had scored 49.325 on beam, it held a 148.100-147.775 lead heading into the final rotation.
 
 
Box moonwalked her way to a meet-high 9.95 on beam (her seventh title of the year) to pace Georgia’s 49.350. Rogers added 9.9 while Babalis and Broussard got 9.85s. Utah finished on floor with 49.575 to complete the 197.675-197.125 decision.
