Hali Flickinger became the latest Georgia swimmer to qualify for the Rio Games as she placed second Thursday in the 200-meter butterfly in the United States Olympic Trials.
Georgia now boasts six American team members in Flickinger, Allison Schmitt, Melanie Margalis, Chase Kalisz, Jay Litherland and Olivia Smoliga. Gunnar Bentz also is expected to be added as a relay participant. Georgia additionally has Canadians Brittany MacLean, Chantal Van Landeghem and Javier Acevedo as well as Finland’s Matias Koski.
Flickinger, who capped her collegiate career in March, reached the wall on Thursday in 2:07.50, eclipsed only by Camille Adams’ 2:06.80.
“I’ve been racing with Camille for so long, and I am so happy to be going to Rio with her,” Flickinger said. “I’m just so excited. I can’t believe I’m going to the Olympics.”
