Mike White and the UGA men’s basketball team traveled to Lexington, Kentucky Saturday night to take on the 8th ranked Kentucky Wildcats. The Bulldogs were 14.5 point underdogs heading into the game. The Bulldogs fell to the Wildcats with a final score of 96-105. Georgia falls to 13-5 (3-2 in SEC play).
After Georgia started out the game strong with a lead, Kentucky eventually tied it up at 10. From this point on, the Bulldogs were never able to make a comeback. The Dawgs trailed 35-54 at halftime. Kentucky’s largest lead was 28 points with 7:55 remaining in the second half, but Georgia finished the game outscoring Kentucky 28-12. For most of the game, there seemed to be no defensive answer for the Bulldogs. Kentucky finished shooting an impressive 56% from the three point line.
This was Kentucky’s first game with Zvonimir Ivisic, a 7’3 wing from Croatia. The NCAA cleared Ivisic today, giving him immediate eligibility. Ivisic, nicknamed ‘Croatia’s Unicorn,’ totaled for 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Georgia had two standouts on the scoring side. Most notably, Jabri Abdul-Rahim had a career high 34 points, shooting 50% (7-14) from three. True Freshman Silas Demary Jr. also had a career high 22 points.
Although the outcome was not desired, Georgia showed more flashes of what the fans want to see. In the second half, the Bulldogs shot 60.6% from the field, up 10.6% from the first half.
Georgia returns home Wednesday night to face off against LSU at 6:30PM EST.
