Holes to fill in 2025!

You may have realized Georgia’s starting quarterback from the last year now resides in Miami. This gives Mike Bobo and the Georgia offense a new leader at the helm. Gunner Stockton will most likely be the starter for the Bulldogs come August 30 as he heads into his redshirt junior year.

Stockton showed promise in the last six quarters of the 2024-25 season after Carson Beck went down with an elbow injury. He led Georgia to an SEC Championship thrilling overtime victory. Although the result against Notre Dame was not a desired one for Georgia fans, Stockton seemingly threads the needle. He struggled behind an offensive line that had one of its rougher years in recent memory. The group gave up 25 combined sacks throughout the season. Against the Irish, Stockton was taken down behind the line of scrimmage four times.

Now, there will be at least three new faces on the offensive line heading into the 2025 season. Tate Ratledge, Jared Wilson and Xavier Truss are all taking their talents to the 2025 NFL Draft. Thankfully for Bulldog fans, offensive line coach Stacy Searels has done a great job bringing in talent the past few years. There will be strong competition as the starting jobs are up in the air. Earnest Greene III and Monroe Freeling are returning at the offensive tackle spot, but they are in competition with guys like Jahzare Jackson. Jackson, a former basketball recruit, stands at 6’10” and now has his first year of Georgia football, and football in general, under his belt. Daniel Calhoun is another name on the O-line that saw some time last season but had to miss a lot of spring drills with a foot injury.

As he regains his health heading into the season, watch for Calhoun to gain some reps. After last year’s subpar ending, this is a group that will want to bring back the standard of success to Georgia’s offensive line.

Coach Smart had high praise for three members of the offensive line. Drew Bobo will be the team’s center while Micah Morris and Earnest Greene III are projected starters at their respective positions.

“Those three guys are setting kind of the standard for the rest of the O-line,” said Smart.

Georgia led the nation with 31 dropped passes last season. Any fan of the sport could see the struggles of the Bulldogs’ receiver room. Even Georgia’s leading receiver last season, who had 817 yards, became the first SEC wideout to drop 10 or more passes since 2016. Wide receiver coach James Coley brought in both high school talent and studs from the transfer portal. On top of that, many experienced pass-catchers are returning to the team for the 2025 season.

Mike Bobo will have to capitalize on using these new members of the team after a lackluster performance in the Sugar Bowl. It seems that it has become a trend to hate on Bobo, but the only thing that number of drops from last season can give Georgia fans is hope for improvement. As the position group grows, Coley must also develop these talents. Talyn Taylor and CJ Wiley stand out as early enrollees from Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class. Zachariah Branch, former No. 1 receiver in the class of 2023, performed well at USC but not up to his full potential out of high school. He will be given ample opportunities at Georgia in the pass-catching game as well as special teams. The tight end room might have, dare I say, too much talent, a good problem to have. Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie are back. Redshirt freshman Jaden Reddell didn’t see the field much last year; true freshmen Elyiss Williams and Ethan Barbour have not seen the college field at all, but all have been spoken highly of by tight end coach Todd Hartley.

Trevor Etienne is gone. The Bulldogs brought in one running back out of high school, Bo Walker. Micah Bell, brother of Dillon Bell, also joined the roster as a running back. Bell played both defensive back and wide receiver in his prior college years. Roderick Robinson II and Branson Robinson have both dealt with injuries throughout the majority of their collegiate careers. Cash Jones is returning for his redshirt senior year. Nate Frazier is back for his second year, however, along with Dwight Phillips Jr. and Chauncey Bowens. Phillips Jr. and Bowens will have to step up in a room that continuously rotates.

Now that Dan Jackson and Malaki Starks are off to the NFL, some new spots opened up at the defensive back position. KJ Bolden and JaCorey Thomas are back for the Bulldogs, but three new safeties transferred to join in on the competition for the 2025 season. Adrian Maddox, Jaden Harris and Zion Branch are all new to the roster and have multiple years of experience under their collegiate belts.
