Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report. It’s like riding a train that has come off the tracks. I sure wish I knew how to get that train back on the tracks. In what was suppose to be year two in back to back NCAA appearances, it’s now one where the team is trying to prevent the sky from falling. Btw, that would’ve been only the fourth time in 84 years of basketball. We’ve never been three straight years. But I digress …. We keep finding more and more painful ways to lose. This past Wednesday we fell apart at the end of the first half and were down double around 15-18 points much of the second half. But like we always do, we fought back. We stay in just enough to keep me glued to the TV and then lose at the end. This time, 84-81 to Auburn. Heck, the only losses we’ve had this year that weren’t winnable and heart-breaking were Texas A&M and at Kentucky. Those games were much easier to take I promise. Up next is Ole Miss in Athens at noon on Saturday. These games don’t mean much now unless you’re a fan of the NIT. The Dawgs have to ready themselves for the SEC Tournament and try to find a way to win it all there. There’s no doubt this team has the talent to win four straight in Nashville. The issue is they’ve only played up to their potential in three games so far this year. So history is not on our side.
 
 
Putting the Big Dance aside, it seems they’re also playing for Mark Fox’s job. Many people are saying it’s time to go. In a historical context, he’s done as good if not better than any other coach in UGA history. Hugh Durham is a legend and has some amazing years. Tubby Smith had two of the best years ever, but it was just two years. Jim Harrick did an outstanding job but his tenure was cut short as well. Then there’s Mark Fox. With Fox, you’re getting a clean coach that appears to love Athens. Other than this season, he’s overachieved every year he’s been here in my opinion. He’s been to two NCAAs and deserved a bid in 2014. But one bad year puts you in the crosshairs. Add to that he’s not a McGarity. I’m a Fox supporter and hope he’s here next year. That said, I’m also a UGA guy and want what’s best for the team. If there’s a more capable man for the position, then hire him. But remember, the grass is always greener until you get there. So be careful what you wish for. I’m all cliched out now. Let’s wrap this thing up.
 
 
There’s not a lot to say. We’ve played our way out of the tournament. Win the SEC tourney and you’re back in. At least the plan is simple. Oh, but I will say this. Beat Ole Miss and Go Dawgs!
