Welcome to the Bulldawg Hoops Report: Georgia vs. Tennessee. It’s like jumping out of a plane with a busted parachute as the Dawgs are in free fall right now. We’ve dropped five straight SEC games and basically now we’re no longer a bubble team. We’re a thread team. That’s how we’re hanging, anyway.
 
The most recent debacle is a home loss to Florida by 12. The Dawgs actually played a decent game for 32 minutes. But their lack of offensive production caught up to them and the Gators pulled away. Now, if the Dawgs want to maintain any outside chance of a post-season appearance via an at-large bid, they’ve got to win Saturday at Tennessee. UT, like most of the SEC, is not a really good team by any measure. However, neither are we right now. So while I counted this as a win in November, who knows at the moment. Before we look ahead, though, let’s look back to Tuesday.
 
 
We’ve said all year the Dawgs need a consistent third scorer. We’ve had a few people look like they’d be the guy, but no one has proven he’s worthy of it. Juwan Parker seems lost and/or uninterested at times. That’s odd for a fifth year senior an All-Academic team. Derek Ogbeide is just a little limited offensive though he’s a hard worker that gives a 100% every night. Jordan Harris has a bright future but it’s too tough to rely on a freshman. Outside of that, no one has really even scratched the surface.
 
 
My guess is someone will emerge with three or four games left in the regular season. Then the Dawgs will win five or six in a row and look like of the best teams in the conference before losing in the semis of the SEC Tourney. Thus, they’ll fall just short of the Big Dance. While that may not happen, it would be very a befitting end of a season for a UGA Hoops fan.
 
 
However, before we bury the season let’s just go to Knoxville and beat UT. While they did beat UK, so did the Dawgs for 59:50. It was the last ten seconds that didn’t go so well. While beating the orange clad clowns is not a resume builder, it does stop the bleeding. And mathematically, the Dawgs are still alive. We’d have to most likely go 6-1 to close the conference schedule in order to make the Big Dance. Based on the talent this team has, that’s possible. Based on the way we’ve played at the end of games, it seems 2000 Light Years from Home, per the Stones.
 
 
So we’re 4-7. I have to admit I never thought we’d have a SEC record this bad. The last four years I’ve been able to nail our SEC record each year within a game. This year I thought 10-8 was the number. The only bright spot is we’re really only two games below where I thought we’d be. Luckily, we’ve also played a very difficult schedule. The problem now is trying to turn it around. These guys have to believe they can turn it around and, at the is point, that’s tough I’m sure. Coach Fox needs to work some magic and work it quick. I’m a supporter of his and think he’s a great fit for UGA. He’s really coached up some bad teams over the years. However, the team has underperformed and I don’t know how much the regime at Butts-Mehre likes coaches named Mark. But hey, if he does get fired he’ll have some free time. Maybe he’ll take up skydiving. Just make sure to double check then chute. Go Dawgs!
