Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report. It’s like a dead man walking. And that’s exactly what the Dawgs’ season is at the moment. Heading into the SEC Tournament, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is of the other seven teams in the Dawg’s half of the bracket, we’ve only beaten one of them and are a combined 1-6 against the group. The good news is they are all beatable. In actuality, on a team-by-team basis, the worst match-up for the Dawgs would be game two against Missouri. They’re averaging over 80 in their last four and will pose a huge obstacle if we get past Vandy. And speaking of Vandy, they stink. They are not good at all. However, for some reason, we never react well in their arena. We didn’t this year and they throttled us in Nashville. Well, now we’re in St. Louis and we’re two and half point favorites on the neutral floor. We know the winner has Mizzou and that winner has UK. And btw, I think the A&M/Bama winner knocks Auburn off in their first game as the one seed on the other half of that bracket.
But I digress….
Anyway, the Dawgs are in total control of their destiny. Go 5-0 and we’re dancing. Sounds crazy but so did winning the SEC Tournament in 2008 after going 4-12 in the regular season. Plus, we had to win two games in the same day back then. So winning five in as many days is much easier. Especially when you compare out depth. And let’s say we run out of gas after four games, what happens then? Well, I think 4-1 and may get us in the Big Dance. I think if we make a run to the finals, we’ve made an argument. The issues that could hurt that argument are there are a lot of SEC teams on the bubble and we wouldn’t need a lot of upsets in the other conference tournaments. But let’s not get too far out on our skis just yet.
Right now the focus is Vandy. The Techies of the SEC. NERDS! Let’s get it on. It may not be easy, but I think we win. But we have to take it one game at a time. Focus on the Nerds from Nashville and worry about Thursday on Thursday. Go Dawgs!!
