Noon games always have the feeling of a trap game when you have a highly ranked team like Georgia playing a South Carolina team with nothing to lose.  The last two weeks against Notre Dame and Tennessee the Dawgs have gotten off to slow starts.  This weekend Georgia needs to dominate from the opening snap and let the Gamecocks know they have no hope.  South Carolina is a dangerous team if the Dawgs allows them to gain confidence.

The Georgia offensive line continues to improve week-by-week.  With Solomon Kindley scheduled to return this week, the Dawgs are once again at 100% strength along the offensive line.  It is time for this unit to come out and maul an opponent in the running game.  If Sam Pittman’s crew plays to their potential the Gamecock defense doesn’t stand a chance.

Set the Edge

Don’t overlook South Carolina running backs Rico Dowdle and Tavien Feaster.  They are the best duo the Dawgs have seen to this point in the season and both are capable of breaking a big play each time they touch the ball.  It will be a huge test for the outside linebackers to set the edge and keep them from turning the corner.  If the Dawgs contain the Gamecock running game and force Hilinski and Joyner to try to win the game with their arm I like the Dawgs chances.

 

 

 

 

Get Off the Field

South Carolina is going to slow the pace of the game, limit possessions and keep the clock running.   They don’t have the depth to compete with Georgia for 60 minutes if Georgia runs 70+ plays.  If the Junkyard Dawg defense is consistently able to get off the field on 3rd Down the offensive line will get a chance to maul a tired Gamecock defensive line in the 4th Quarter.

A continued theme for the Dawgs on offense is creating explosive plays.  The protection by the offensive line has been tremendous for the first 5 games of the season with only one sack allowed.  However, Georgia has still struggled to push the ball down the field.  I have been waiting all season to see Demetris Robertson, Matt Landers, George Pickens or any other wide receiver run by an opposing defensive back.  The Dawgs have too much speed to not see that happen a couple of times per game.

Matthew “Huck” Pasek was born into a family of Georgia Bulldogs. Huck’s father, Gary, graduated from UGA in 1976 and became a high school chemistry teacher at Peachtree HS in Dunwoody, GA where he coached alongside Georgia High School football legend T. McFerrrin. Gary’s love of football, especially Georgia football, was passed along to his son. Huck lives in Belmont, NC with his wife, Whitney, and works in Financial Services Litigation. In his spare time he is an avid golfer, movie fanatic and habitual traveler to St. Simons Island with his wife “just to get away”. The moniker ImYourHuckleberry arose from his favorite movie, Tombstone, and character Doc Holiday’s famous line, “I’m Your Huckleberry”. Matthew was never one to shy away from a confrontation or debate, thus the nickname instantly stuck.
