UGA wide receiver Lawrence Cager has battled through a shoulder injury as well as a rib injury, and there were questions on whether or not he would play versus Florida. However, Cager wasn’t about to miss this game.

“I wasn’t going to miss this game for anything,” said Cager. “I wasn’t going to miss this game. I used to watch this game every year as a football fan. This is a great game, everybody knows that. Big rivalry, so I wasn’t going to miss it.”

In the UGA football post-game press conference, Kirby Smart stated that Cager was determined to play from the get-go.

 “He was determined from the start. He was on the side running, he was doing things, he was wearing Kevlar pads. He did everything he could,” said Kirby. “He rehabbed extra. He couldn’t do any more than he already did to get out there and play. His biggest concern for me was conditioning.”

And what a game Cager had, hauling in 7 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown on the night. The graduate transfer shared his thoughts on one of his seven receptions, a fourth-quarter touchdown.

“It was a great play call by Coach (James) Coley. We had practiced it all week—new play—thought we could get it in there on man coverage,” said Cager. “We knew that they played a lot of 42, so we got the look.”

What did Cager’s head coach think of his performance versus Florida?

“Just proud of him. He’s a competitor. I’ve known him since he was in high school,” said Kirby Smart “And he had a big game. He had a big game but so did a lot of other guys in that Georgia uniform.”
