Mark Richt talks about senior kicker Marshall Morgan:

[su_spacer size=”40″] Mark Richt discusses how senior punter Collin Barber has progressed from spring camp:We did kick some field goals. Marshall has been kicking the ball very well. He did miss one today, but it was a little bit of a rough operation. A little bit of a low snap. A little bit of a bobble trying to get the ball down. The timing was just not right and we missed one. Other than that, he has been kicking good.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Mark Richt is asked about the “operation” or execution snapping the ball to the kickers and punters:Colin has been punting much better at the beginning of camp now than he finished in the spring. A big difference.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Coach Richt was asked if he would be “a little hesitant” about using the starting quarterback as a holder on field goals and PATs, and he explains why he wouldn’t be because of how it affects the opposing team:… The operation has been real good. This one in particular was a little bit low and inside. The holder was working real hard to get it down , and he got it down; but I think it disrupted timing a little bit.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Mark Richt: Kicking game in the scrimageNot really. Because certainly, it keeps people on their toes for fakes, and if you are worried about fakes, then you sometimes play safe looks on that unit, which means you are not trying to block a kick, or you are not going all out to block a kick. There may be a middle block or edge block and everybody else playing defense. I cannot remember the last time I saw somebody run into holder.
[su_spacer size=”40″] To hear Coach Richt say that punter Colin Barber is much better right now is certainly good news, especially after watching him struggle during the spring as well as last year. It is also refreshing to hear that whatever the issue was with the holders during PATs and field goals back in the spring, now, for the most part, seems to have been addressed and fixed. Of course, the proof will be in the pudding as there are still approximately 3 weeks to go in Fall Camp, and the execution in practice is one thing when compared to getting it down on game day.
