Georgia junior J.J. Frazier has been selected as the State of Georgia’s Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

 
Frazier, a 5-10, 155-pound, junior guard from Glennville, Ga., is the Bulldogs’ leading scorer, both overall (16.3 ppg) and in SEC play (16.6 ppg). All told, Frazier is currently ranked among the SEC’s top-10 statistical leaders in seven catgories. In addition to No. 8 in scoring, Frazier also is No. 4 in 3-point percentage (.418), No. 5 in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5), No. 5 in steals (1.8 spg), No. 8 in free throw percentage (.787) and No. 9 in 3-pointers (2.4 3FGspg).
 
 
Through 27 games, Frazier has led Georgia in scoring 12 times, in assists 18 times and in steals 13 times – all team-best tallies. He has 20 double-digit scoring games, including 10 20-point performances. Frazier has season-high outputs of 35 points versus Georgia Tech, 10 rebounds against Winthrop and 11 assists at Baylor.
 
 
Frazier is the Bulldogs’ eighth recipient of the state’s top hoops honor. Vern Fleming was chosen in 1984, the initial year the award was given. Additional honorees include Jumaine Jones in 1999, Jarvis Hayes in both 2002 and 2003, Rashad Wright in 2004, Trey Thompkins in 2011 and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in 2013.
 
 
In addition to Frazier, Georgia’s Joni Taylor was named the Whack Hyder Women’s College Coach of the Year, Emory’s Jason Zimmerman was named the Whack Hyder Men’s College Coach of the Year and Georgia Tech’s Aaliyah Whiteside was named the Women’s College Player of the Year.

We’re proud to honor these athletes and coaches who represent our state and sport so well.”
 
 
The Atlanta Tipoff Club will recognize the recipients at the annual awards program on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the College Football Hall of Fame.
