UGA and Florida have agreed to a new deal to extend the stay of the annual Georgia/Florida game in Jacksonville. In fact, the schools agreed over a year ago. The Jacksonville City Council will vote on the agreement “in the coming weeks.”

The latest agreement in the storied rivalry has a total of $2.75 million in incentives for the schools over the life five-season contract. Each school will receive $125,000 as a “signing bonus” and $250,000 in guaranteed payment each year to both schools, which didn’t exist under the prior contract.
 
Both schools are also getting an increase in their travel and lodging stipend to $60,000 – which is a $10,000 increase from the previous agreement. The city is covering the University of Georgia’s air travel up to $350,000 each year.
 
Like the prior contract, the universities receive full ticket revenue and do not pay to play at Everbank Field. Jacksonville covers the cost of game day operations but retains the right to operate concessions, while the schools have rights to merchandising.
 
The proposed contract will be voted on by the Jacksonville City Council in the coming weeks. Although there is no written agreement yet on file, the 2017 game is safe and will be played as planned in Jacksonville, according to Mayor Lenny Curry’s office.
