Yesterday’s win of 49-7 against Middle Tennessee was a cause for celebration for all Bulldogs but this game holds special significance for senior Jayson Stanley. Yesterday, he made his first touchdown reception and the third catch of his career at Georgia. In the third quarter, he caught a nine-yard pass from Justin Fields for the final touchdown of the game.
Although Stanley has been practicing with the wide receivers since he joined the team in 2015, most of his time on the field has been spent on special teams. His freshman year he had two receptions for 23 yards but since then he has had trouble holding onto the ball. In 2016, he started in five games but had no receptions. He did have two significant drops, one being in the end zone at Ole Miss on what would have been a long touchdown pass and the other a wide-open short pass against Florida. He touched the field in all of the last year’s regular season games and the SEC Championship against Auburn.
Stanley plays a big role in blocking for the running game when he is on the field. He assisted against Middle Tennessee by blocking for Mecole Hardman’s 70-yard punt return for a touchdown raising the score to 28-0.
