Ohio State took care of business at Penn State. Georgia and Oregon survived. Texas A&M did not. It’s college football, and so much can change from week to week. There is nothing like it. For those teams who have fallen out of the mix to be one of those 12 teams, keeping the focus can be an issue. As always, our top four teams represent the Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big XII, since those four conference champs get a bye. And No. 12 is the frontrunner from the Group of Five. Enjoy, there are just four more weeks left in the regular season.
1. Oregon – The Ducks took care of business in Ann Arbor, beating Michigan 38-17 in the Big House. Oregon is really rolling, and certainly looks like the best team in the country right now. The Ducks are now 9-0 and host Maryland Saturday in a Big Ten battle.
2. Miami – The Hurricanes are 9-0 and this offense is rolling. Miami took care of Duke Saturday. Cam Ward is a tremendous talent at quarterback. He may win the Heisman Trophy. It’s not a classic Miami defense, but they are fast and athletic. Miami plays the Jackets Saturday.
3. Georgia – The Bulldogs have a huge challenge Saturday afternoon in Oxford against Ole Miss. Georgia beat Florida 34-20 this past weekend, dominating the second half and overcoming three more interceptions. Kirby Smart has done an incredible job at the Georgia helm.
4. Brigham Young – The lone undefeated team in the Big XII, the Cougars are having a sensational season. Brigham Young is 8-0 and headed for its toughest test of the season, the Holy War against Kyle Whittingham’s Utes in Salt Lake City.
5. Ohio State – The Buckeyes continue their mastery of rival Penn State with a 20-13 victory over the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. Ohio State is now 7-1 on the year and hosts Purdue Saturday. This was a huge boost for Ohio State’s shot at the Big Ten title and an Oregon rematch.
6. Texas – The Longhorns were off this week and now get focused for the home stretch. The improved Florida Gators head to Austin and Texas catches them at a good time, coming off the Cocktail Party. The ‘Horns have a lot of talented pieces across the board.
7. Tennessee – The Volunteers took care of Kentucky 28-18 to make it 7-1. Tennessee’s defensive line is top notch, one of the best in college football. The Vols are back at home on Saturday night, taking on Mississippi State before heading to Athens.
8. Indiana – How about the Indiana Hoosiers, a perfect 9-0 for the first time in school history. Indiana manhandled Michigan State 47-10 this past week. Now the Wolverines come to town. Curt Cignetti, hot take, is a hot name in the coaching ranks.
9. Penn State – It was disappointment once again for the Nittany Lions, as they lost for an eighth straight time to Ohio State. Penn State will try and bounce back this week, hosting the Washington Huskies in State College. How will the Nittany Lions respond?
10. Ole Miss – The Rebels were incredible in a 63-31 victory over Arkansas in Fayetteville. It was a record setting passing attack. Jaxson Dart is on point at quarterback. Now they get Georgia in Oxford, and you can bet The Grove will be rocking. Ole Miss is hungry.
11. Notre Dame – The Fighting Irish have played great since getting upset by Northern Illinois. Notre Dame is 7-1 and facing Florida State, which is having a historically awful season. The Seminoles are 1-8. Notre Dame is in good shape for a CFP berth.
12. Boise State – The Broncos rolled past San Diego State 56-24 to make it 7-1 on the year. The Nevada Wolfpack head to the Blue Turf Saturday. Running back Ashton Jeanty is having a phenomenal season, with over 1,500 yards on the ground and 20 touchdowns.
