There were some big numbers put up in Week One by top-10 teams against overmatched foes. In the most high profile games, Georgia and Miami secured signature victories in the renewal of old rivalries with Clemson and Florida. Before yelling at the writer, remember, we’re doing our top four as the quartet of favorites to get the byes in the College Football Playoff as league champions. And No. 12 is the top Group of Five team.

1. Georgia – The top-ranked Bulldogs were dominant in a 34-3 victory over Clemson. Georgia has now won 40 consecutive regular season games, and 47 of the last 49 overall. The Bulldogs host Tennessee Tech Saturday and then the SEC grind begins.

2. Ohio State – The Buckeyes posted an easy win over Akron to open the season. Ohio State has a soft start to the season. Next up this week is a visit from Western Michigan. Will Howard got off to a good start at quarterback for the Scarlet and Gray.

3. Miami – The Hurricanes got the season off to an impressive start with a 41-17 victory over old in-state rival Florida at The Swamp. This is big for the Miami faithful. Cam Ward was great at QB. FAMU comes to Miami Saturday. The temperature is hot in Gainesville.

4. Utah – The Running Utes overwhelmed Southern Utah 49-0 in their first game as a member of the Big XII. Now they play their first intra-conference game in their new league, hosting the Baylor Bears in Salt Lake City.

5. Texas – It’s off to Michigan in Ann Arbor for the Longhorns in a battle of two elite programs which were both in the playoff last year. Texas rolled over Colorado State in the season opener – the Longhorns first game as a member of the SEC.

6. Alabama – It was easy over Western Kentucky for the Crimson Tide in the debut of Kalen DeBoer era on the capstone … Jalen Milroe is a fantastic quarterback. Figure another big win for Alabama this week with South Florida. Then it’s off to Wisconsin.

7. Missouri – The Tigers picked up an impressive 51-0 win over Murray State to kick off the season last Thursday night in Columbia. Mizzou will aim to make it 2-0 out of the gates, as the Buffalo Bulls come to town. The schedule is manageable for these Tigers.

8. Ole Miss – The Rebels put up huge numbers against Furman to open the season led by QB Jaxson Dart. Ole Miss has a manageable SEC slate and soft non conference schedule. Middle Tennessee State heads to Vaught-Hemingway this week.

9. Notre Dame – One of the most impressive performances of Week One was turned in by the Fighting Irish, who went to College Station and beat Texas A&M in Mike Elko’s first game as the Aggies Head Coach 23-13. Northern Illinois heads to South Bend Saturday.

10. Southern Cal – The Trojans had one of the biggest wins of the weekend, beating LSU 27-20 in Las Vegas. USC is outstanding at the skill positions. The Trojans host Utah State Saturday, then have an open date before the Big Trn opener at Michigan.

11. Penn State – The Nittany Lions beat old rival West Virginia 34-12 to open the season in fine form. A 20-0 second quarter was the high point. They could be the biggest threat to Ohio State in the Big Ten. Bowling Green heads to State College this week.

12. Memphis – The Tigers just may be the team to beat in the race for the Group of Five playoff spot. Quarterback Seth Henigan threw for over 300 yards in a 40–0 win over North Alabama. Troy heads to Memphis this weekend.
