Jeff Dantzler’s Top 12 – Florida Week 2024

Now it’s November, and the final month of the regular season. There are some tremendous races across the board with every contender dreaming of one of those 12 coveted spots in the College Football Playoff. Remember, the top four spots and CFP byes go to the champions of the four major conferences. Plus there is a spot for the highest ranked “Group of Five” champ. So this top 12 has a Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big XII team in the top four. Plus that 12th spot is for the Group of Five team that looks the best.

1. Oregon – The Ducks are on a roll. They blew away tough Illinois 38-9 in Eugene to make it 8-0 on the season. Now comes a trip to Ann Arbor, as Oregon tries to add Michigan to the 2024 hit list. Dan Lanning’s team is really hitting its stride since beating Ohio State.

2. Miami – It was a sweet night for the Hurricanes, who took down arch rival Florida State 36-14 down in South Florida to make it 8-0. The Miami win also clinched a losing record for the Seminoles. The ‘Canes host Duke this week. Miami’s offense is hot.

3. Georgia – The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive 30-15 victory over then top-ranked Texas. Georgia was off this past weekend. It’s time now for the Gators, who were also off last week, in Jacksonville. Florida pounded Kentucky 48-20 last time out.

4. Brigham Young – The Cougars took down UCF 37-24 to post a Big XII win and improve to 8-0 on the season. BYU is playing great and the Cougars have this week off. Then comes the Holy War against Utah in Salt Lake City.

5. Penn State – The Nittany Lions turned it on in the fourth quarter and put away Wisconsin 28-13 in Madison. Penn State is 7-0. Now it’s time for the nemesis, Ohio State. Happy Valley will be rocking, as the Nittany Lions can take a huge step towards the CFP.

6. Texas A&M – Marcel Reed came off the bench at quarterback and took the Aggies to the next level with an incredible performance against LSU. The win over the Tigers improves the Aggies to 7-1 and 5-0 in the SEC. It’s off to South Carolina Saturday night.

7. Ohio State – The Buckeyes got a scare from Nebraska, but pulled out a 21-17 win over the Cornhuskers in the Horseshoe. Ohio State is 6-1 and headed to State College for a huge battle against Penn State. This one is critical in the Big 10 race.

8. Texas – The Longhorns got a scare in Nashville, but escaped with a 27-24 win over Vanderbilt. Texas is now 7-1 and heading into an open date. The next game is November 9 against vastly improved Florida, which will be coming off of Jacksonville.

9. Clemson – The Tigers have been dominant since the season-opening loss to Georgia in Atlanta. The offense, in particular, has been tremendous. Clemson is 6-1 and coming off an open date. Louisville heads to Tiger Town this week for a big ACC battle.

10. Tennessee – The Volunteers are 6-1 and had this past week off to enjoy their 24-17 victory over Alabama in Knoxville. Now comes another old rival, as Kentucky heads to Neyland Stadium Saturday night. Tennessee’s defensive line is one of the SEC’s best.

11. Indiana – In one of the great stories of the college football season, the Indiana Hoosiers are a perfect 8-0. Indiana took care of Washington 31-17 in Bloomington. Now comes another Big Ten battle, as the Hoosiers hit the road to take on Michigan State.

12. Boise State – The Broncos survived one of their toughest challenges of the season, taking down UNLV 29-24 in a Las Vegas battle of once-beatens. It’s another Friday night game this week, as Boise hosts San Diego State on the Blue turf.
