It was the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play, which gave gridiron fans a sweet buffet of seven intra-league battles. The Big Ten will be joining the party and other leagues too, including the PAC-12. Alabama and Clemson sit atop the rankings again, and rightfully so. This is a unique season to say the least, but it is so nice to see a majority of teams in action.

- Alabama – No problem with the Tide against Mizzou. Now it’s a big one Saturday, as Texas A&M heads to T-town aiming for the upset. Since being upset by Johnny Football’s Aggies in their inaugural SEC season in 2012, Alabama has won seven straight in the series.
- Clemson – The 2-0 Tigers were idle this weekend. Virginia comes to town Saturday. Trevor Lawrence is a terrific talent who is having an incredible career in Tiger Town. Clemson has been dominating its ACC foes in recruiting.
- Florida – To have a great season, you had better trust your quarterback and your kicker. With Kyle Trask and Evan McPherson, check those two boxes for the Gators, who looked mighty in a 51-35 win at Ole Miss. South Carolina heads to Gainesville Saturday.
- Miami – Hello Hurricanes! They are smoking hot. D’Eriq King is the difference-maker for Miami, which always has a talented roster. Miami put a big-time beatdown on rival Florida State, rolling 52-10. The ‘Canes are off Saturday, then go to Clemson.
- Mississippi State – It was a record-setting performance and a historic win for the Starkville Maroons, who topped defending national champion LSU 44-34 in Baton Rouge. What a debut for Mike Leach and KJ Costello. MSU hosts Arkansas Saturday.
- Auburn – It was a tough, physical victory for Auburn, as the Tigers handled Kentucky in a match-up of ranked foes. Seth Williams is a terrific wide receiver, a touchdown maker who headlines a stellar group. Auburn heads to Athens Saturday for a big showdown.
- Georgia – It was a shaky first half in Arkansas, but the Bulldogs rolled after intermission, posting a 37-10 victory. The gauntlet really begins now, as Georgia hosts Auburn in an early meeting of the Deep South’s oldest rivalry.
- Ohio State – The Buckeyes – and the rest of the Big Ten – cranks up play on October 24th. Ohio State will host Nebraska. The Buckeyes blew away the competition in conference play last season.
- Notre Dame – The Fighting Irish and Wake Forest had their game postponed this past Saturday. Notre Dame is off this weekend and then Florida State heads to South Bend. Ian Book is an excellent quarterback and the Irish have a tough defense.
- Brigham Young – The Cougars are a sporty 2-0, led by quarterback Zach Wilson, who is one of the best in the country. BYU has beaten Navy 55-3 and Troy 48-7. The Cougars welcome Louisiana Tech on Friday.
- Central Florida – The Golden Knights offense is rolling with Dillon Gabriel at quarterback. Central Florida has rolled past Tech and East Carolina, and now hosts Tulsa. The top of the American Conference again looks very strong.
- Texas – It was a comeback for the ages, as the Longhorns stormed back from the brink to win the shootout of the day at Texas Tech in overtime 63-56. Texas hosts TCU Saturday with the staggered Sooners looming.
- Tennessee – The Volunteers winning streak is now at seven, as they edged South Carolina in a fantastic game 31-27 in Columbia. Tennessee will try and make it eight straight and 2-0 in 2020 against Missouri in Knoxville Saturday.
- Texas A&M – Yes it was a win, but the Aggies offense had all kinds of issues in a 17-12 squeaker of a win over Vanderbilt. Next up is the best team in the country. Texas A&M heads to Alabama Saturday.
- Cincinnati – The Bearcats are 2-0 and notched a very impressive 24-10 win over a good Army squad. Next up is South Florida, which has fallen off, in Cincy. This is another of those very good American teams.
