Independence Community College player, Jermaine Johnson made his decision where he would finish his colligate career. Dawg Nation’s Jeff Sentell broke the news Thursday evening. The four-star WDE/OLB chose the Bulldogs and will enroll early. Johnson chose Georgia over Texas, Oregon, Oklahoma, and UCLA.
Johnson is a 6-6 250-pound defensive end that can also play at outside linebacker. According to 247Sports latest JUCO rankings, he ranks as the No. 1 overall prospect, No. 1 WDE, and the No. 1 MN player. Johnson currently holds 22 offers with the latest coming from Oklahoma State on July 30. On July ninth he released a top five which included Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Oklahoma, and UCLA. However, it didn’t take him long to make a decision.
Before he made his choice, he took unofficial visits to Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Arizona, Texas and Texas A&M. Johnson took officials to Colorado and Oregon as well. Georgia’s biggest competition appeared to be Oregon, but once he came back to campus on July 28th, it was a done deal. Dan Lanning and Glenn Schumann led the recruitment for this defensive end and pulled in yet another talented out-of-state player.
Last season at Independence Community College, he recorded 58 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, two pass breakups, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
This commitment marks the 17th for Georgia and the 12th four-star on that list. Georgia takes over the No. 1 spot from Alabama with Johnson’s pledge with three fewer commitments. Georgia now has 287.36 points, and the average per prospect is now 94.57.
