Jimmy Pitts, a two-time All-SEC performer during the 1960s, has been named Georgia’s Allstate SEC Basketball Legend for 2017. Representatives from all 14 league schools will be honored during the SEC Tournament on March 8-12 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
 
Pitts became just the fifth Bulldog basketball player to earn back-to-back All-SEC recognition when he was honored as such following the 1964 and 1965 seasons. As a senior, Pitts also was named UGA’s top male athlete in in all sports, first-team Academic All-SEC and honorable mention Academic All-America.
 
The Smyrna, Georgia native finished his career second among the Bulldogs’ career scoring leaders with 1,240 points after setting UGA career records for free throws made (428) and free throw percentage (.804). He still ranks No. 9 among UGA’s career scoring average leaders at 15.9 points per game over his three seasons.
 
Following his standout career in Athens, Pitts was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1965 NBA Draft.

Each SEC Basketball Legend will be recognized at halftime of his institution’s first game at the tournament.
