As one of the Bulldogs only seniors on the defensive line, John Atkins understands the importance of moving past the Bulldogs 40-17 loss to the Auburn Tigers.

 

The Bulldogs surrendered a 100 yard rushing game to a running back for the first time this season and the defensive line clearly had their share of struggles. The rotation on the defensive line has been one of the team’s strengths but after their game against Auburn, it is clear that there are still some improvements to make.
 
 
As one of Georgia’s veteran players, Atkins knows that the team must shift all of their focus on the Kentucky Wildcats and continue to “keep chopping wood,” taking it one game at a time. Atkins believes that he saw the team take this approach just one day after the game.
 
 

“We came in yesterday and got some work in. Everybody has the same attitude. We aren’t walking around with the “poor me” attitude. We are just focused on bouncing back because we are still in it,” said Atkins. “We can’t cry over spilled milk.”

 
 
Atkins made a very good point, in that, the Bulldogs playoff hopes are still very much alive if they can get back to their winning ways. The Bulldogs only have two more regular season games left and they have to take it one game at a time if they hope to make a case for the college football playoffs.
 
 
Coach Smart always says that “humility is only a week away” and the Bulldogs definitely were humbled this past weekend. However, if they are able to close out the season strong, then they will still be very much involved in the playoff picture.
 
 
Getting back into the playoff picture will rely heavily on how the senior leadership is able to motivate the team and Atkins will definitely play a large part in that.
