JT Daniels, a sophomore at the University of Georgia, has been selected as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earns the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Facebook contest.

Daniels, a transfer from USC, made his Georgia debut after missing the first six games recovering from injury. He completed 28-of-38 passes for career-highs of 401 yards and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs held off Mississippi State, 31-24. He became the first Bulldog since Aaron Murray in 2013 to throw for more than 400 yards in a game.

The Irvine, Calif., native received his first SEC honor as he was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week. On third down, Daniels was 10-for-11 for 144 yards and three touchdowns and was only sacked once. He posted the top efficiency rating of his career (197.1).

The Bulldogs travel to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina on Saturday. SECN will televise the matchup at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Daniels won this week’s award over Florida’s Kyle Trask and Brady McBride of Texas State. Trask completed 26-of-35 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns as he led the Gators to a 38-17 SEC road victory over Vanderbilt. He has now reached 30 TD passes in a season faster than any SEC QB in history. McBride completed 32-of-45 passes for 443 yards and five touchdowns, crushing his career-highs in nearly every category and matching the school-record for TD passes. In the final 1:43 of the game McBride completed three passes to set up the game-winning touchdown as the Bobcats upended Arkansas State, 47-45, in Sun Belt action.

While the Manning Award selected 30 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, inclusion on the Watch List is not necessary for the quarterbacks to be selected for the honor. Finalists are scheduled to be announced in mid-December and the winner will be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In its first 16 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 12 different schools and from four different conferences. The Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Southeastern Conference (Joe Burrow, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) lead the way with five Manning Award honorees each, while and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) has had four Manning Award winners. LSU (Burrow and Russell) joins Oklahoma (Murray and Mayfield) and Texas (McCoy and Young) as the only schools with two different winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
