Georgia held it’s Pro Day on Wednesday and a number of Bulldogs were in attendance to show what they could do in front of a crowd of NFL scouts, coaches and media. A trim and fit Keith Marshall was there, and many eyes were on the running back as he ran through his drills turning in an impressive performance.
 
 
It is safe to say that Marshall’s career at Georgia probably did not turn out the way he expected. Coming out of Millbrook High School, he was one of the top prospects at running back in the recruiting class of 2012 along with Todd Gurley from the state of North Carolina. Marshall did not disappoint in his freshman season rushing for 759 yards and 8 touchdowns in 14 games along side his teammate “TGIII”, but tragedy would strike the following season when he tore his ACL versus Tennessee up in Knoxville, cutting his sophomore season short.
 
 
Marshall was back in 2014 ready to tote the rock for the Bulldogs to only again have his season cut short by injuries after 3 games. Returning for 2015, Marshall was expected to battle for playing time with sophomore running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, but to fans’ surprise, even after Chubb went down with a season ending knee injury of his own in the Tennessee game, KM was used sparingly.
 
 
After rushing for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2015, Georgia fans wondered if Marshall would return to UGA as a fifth year senior for the 2016 college football season, but the beloved tailback decided to declare for the NFL. Marshall finished his college career at Georgia with 253 carries for 1,379 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns along with 24 catches for 224 receiving yards and 3 touchdown receptions. With an injury laden college career hanging over his head, Marshall was expected to be an undrafted free agent or possibly a seventh round pick in the Draft, but he would have something to say about that at the NFL Combine.
 
 
And to say Keith Marshall impressed scouts and coaches in Indianapolis is an understatement. He turned in one of the fastest 40-yard dash times at the combine for a running back or for any of the participants for that matter with a 4.31 second forty. Not only that, he also showed off his guns putting up 25 reps in the bench press, which was the most out of the running backs at the Combine.
 
 
In fact, his performance was so good that he probably did not have to work out at Georgia’s Pro Day on Wednesday, but he said he had wanted to do some drills for coaches and scouts that he did not get to do at the Combine.
 
 

“I didn’t do a couple of drills at the Combine; so, I came out here to do them. I did pretty well.”

 
 
But the question is, did he do well enough with his performance at the Combine and at Georgia’s Pro Day to move up from a later round draft pick to maybe a day 2 selection in the 2nd or 3rd round? Regardless of where he goes, number 4 places himself squarely in the hearts of many a Georgia Bulldawg as a fan favorite and one heck of a DGD, and those fans as well as myself will be pulling for KM to have a long and successful pro career.
