Kevin Butler’s Player of the Game: Georgia vs. Tennessee Tech 2024

Offensive Player

Carson Beck – The senior QB from Florida is certainly a Heisman candidate and can win it if his goal is that … but if he is SMART, he will play SMART and win a National title. That is what Carson and Kirby did Saturday against Tennessee Tech. They played smart! SMART QB play and performing the Kirby SMART way, what a combination they make! Carson Beck performed great completing 18-25 for 242 yds and tying the school record with five touchdowns through the air. Carson spread the ball all around the offense while keeping the Golden Eagles confused, using 15 different receivers. He is a leader, and the Dawgs are young. That combination will be key to the success of UGA in 2024.

Defensive Player

Tyrion Imgram-Dawkins- The junior from Gaffney, South Carolina is making a name for himself with relentless play and pressure on the defensive line. We have been spoiled for a few years with some great NFL players on the former Dawg D-lines, but the Dawg Nation needs new blood to rise to the top. TID was that guy on Saturday. Tyrion spent the day in the visitors backfield, recording four tackles, three of which were tackles for a loss. His push up field creates space for the linebackers to free and control the line of scrimmage. TID is a Dawg to watch and cheer on!

Special Teams Player

Anthony Evans III- The “Texas Tornado” has landed in Athens, and we think it’s quite nice! AE-III is a special player with his ability to scan the field and know where all of the opponents are while finding the ball to make the catch. That is a special talent when you combine that ability with his burst upfield. It was no more evident than Anthony’s 46-yard return that snapped the Eagles wings. AE-III finished with five returns for 62 yards. What a huge outing! Six first downs through punt returns is awesome! Just another Smart weapon used to destroy the world of college football… BULLDAWG Style!

Unsung Hero of the Game

Football is life-changing, and sometimes, it is the littlest of things that make the greatest impact on people. I met Charlie Ham Saturday after the game with Brett Thorson. They were both extremely happy just as all Dawgs were. However, something was different with Charlie. The graduate transfer from Duke kicked as a Bulldog for the first time in-game. Players often do not know if they will ever get to play in a game Between the Hedges. Well, it happened for Charlie on Saturday, and the timing was perfect for his father, John. John is battling cancer and seeing, experiencing and living the moment with his son as Charlie kicked for the Dawgs is a game-changer! Both John and Charlie were smiling and sharing the sweet memory with each other the way a father and son can only do! I got to share those moments with my father, and I would not give up that moment for anything! Congratulations Charlie and John, my unsung heroes!
