Offensive Player
Dillon Bell – In 1979 we had Anita Ward entertaining the Dawg Nation with “Ring My Bell” and Saturday was a true throwback as Dillon “Ring My” Bell entertained the Dawg Nation more than anybody on the Georgia offense Saturday versus Kentucky. Bell showed his true “throwback” form, leading the Bulldogs in total offense with four receptions for 68 yards and two carries for six yards resulting in two touchdowns. Dillon helped get Georgia its second SEC win of the year. Whether it’s through the air or on the ground, Dillon’s leadership and performance on the field inspires the other players to step up and try to reach new heights. That’s the kind of leadership and performance the Bulldogs will need to get through the toughest part of their schedule–which all lies in front of them. Keep ringing the BELL Dawgs!
Defensive Player
Justin Williams – Defense! Defense! The Texas native from Conroe stands a tall 6-2 and is a big man at 220lbs. That size is complimented with SPEED! Justin collected six tackles, four solo and two assists with one tackle for a loss. As I mentioned, the speed that Williams has brings the full package to the linebacker position, which has become the norm for University of Georgia linebackers. Depth is the key to success for college football teams now, and there’s no better position to have depth than at the linebacking position. Williams is turning out to be a pleasant surprise. His speed will be needed to track down Auburn‘s elusive quarterback in a huge game this coming Saturday on the Plains.
Special team Player
Brett Thorson and London Humphreys – I say it all the time and it was never more true than this week… special teams takes a team not one person. The combination of Brett and London resulted in one of the plays that changed the tempo of the game. Thorson’s 60-yard bomb to the southwest corner at Sanford Stadium resulted in London Humphreys knocking the ball out at the one-yard line. Brett, tremendous execution. London, way to step in and make a game changing play in the role of gunner taking over for an injured Talyn Taylor. Your focus on where the ball was and how to stay out of the end zone gave our defense the boost they needed to take over the game. The combination of Brett and London certainly was a game changer this week.
Unsung Hero of the Game
The Homecoming Crowd – As pageantry goes there’s nothing finer than a Saturday in Athens in the fall when an SEC opponent comes calling. On Saturday versus Kentucky, the homecoming crowd was the perfect Saturday crowd, creating the perfect atmosphere for an SEC victory. The history of Georgia, the spirit of Georgia, the alumni of the University of Georgia all brought magic to the atmosphere on Saturday in Athens. As we crowned a new king and queen for the class of 2025, that atmosphere helped the Bulldogs take a closer step to putting the crown on again as SEC champs. It’s gonna be a hard journey, but it’s much easier at home with the best fans in the world.
